Name an occupation that you've had that no-one else on your friends list has had:
Resident farm hand, age 11. This job lasted for about two weeks. The money and food were good but the hours and work sucked. It was also very isolating.
Corn de-tassling, age 14. This job also lasted for two weeks. The money, hours, and work sucked.
Night Warehouse stock-selector, age 24. I transferred to this position from a night computer operator position because I wanted to make more money with less responsiblility and I was sick of office politics. Pay was based on performance and accuracy which I had a hard time acheiving. The work was very frustrating and hard (basically lifting 50-pound boxes for 8-10 hours every night). Office politics didn't look that bad after a few months of that.
Today, my daughter told me that she'd be happy if I killed myself. I don't believe her.
I finished reading Zodiac: An Eco-Thriller for the 2nd time. When I reached the last page I turned back to the first page and began again. This has got to be one of my favorite books. The protagonist is somebody I would definitely hang out with (if I ever did anything like hanging out with people). When I finish Zodiac(again), I've got an Ed Gein book lined up. That one looks pretty thin; it should only take me a couple of days. After that I'm reading the entire Dark Tower series from beginning to end.
I ordered parts to build two new PCs and they should be here by the middle of next week. One of the boxes is going in the garage to assume the role of my new DAW. The other one is going to replace my current general-purpose workstation pulling duty burning CDs/DVDs, video editing, NIS server, music/photo/video collection on a mirrored RAID. Both are Athlon 2500's with a gig. I'm upgrading the RAID to 120Gb so I can re-rip my CD collection in FLAC so I never have to rip them again. I went with Radeon 7000's for video. Jade will be inheriting my current GP workstation which is crippled since my last apt-get update (It's currently booting off a Knoppix CD to preserve good spousal relations). Given my current work load I should have these systems built and configured in time for the 2008 presidential elections.
My dog is my only consistent source of stress-free companionship. So I bought him steak today.
